West Ham United want Nico Elvedi and now have an offer on the table for the Borussia Monchengladbach defender.
The Hammers have been very busy in the transfer market this summer and have already brought in two centre backs.
Nayef Aguerd arrived from Rennes before suffering an injury, leading David Moyes to bring in Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain too.
Kehrer adds a versatile option across the back four but West Ham could now move for another centre back.
West Ham United want Nico Elvedi
Craig Dawson is attracting major interest ahead of the transfer deadline with Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers understood to be keen.
Allowing Dawson to leave would mean West Ham need another defender to come in and they may look to the Bundesliga for a reinforcement.
Blick in Switzerland report that West Ham have ‘submitted an offer’ to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi.
It’s stated that Nice boss Lucien Favre may look to sign his compatriot but West Ham are seriously rivalling them.
Elvedi, 25, emerged with Zurich in his native Switzerland before heading to Germany with Gladback in 2015.
Now with almost 250 appearances – as well as 12 goals and nine assists – for Gladbach under his belt, Elvedi may be ready for a new challenge.
Capable of playing at right back or centre back, Elvedi can cover a couple of position and has a decent frame at 6ft 2in tall.
The official Bundesliga website compare Elvedi to John Stones, praising his elegance on the ball when playing out from the back.
That should be interesting to David Moyes, as should the fact that Elvedi has just two years left on his contract.
It’s unclear just how much Gladbach would want, but Elvedi now appears to be alongside Jan Bednarek in terms of being viewed a potential replacement for Dawson.
