West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd scored an own goal at Old Trafford on Wednesday night – just hours after links with a move to Liverpool.

The Hammers traveled to take on Manchester United in the FA Cup on Wednesday with a spot in the last eight up for grabs.

David Moyes’ men actually took the lead as Said Benrahma rifled a shot past David De Gea.

That’s as good as it got for West Ham though as the Red Devils roared back to claim a 3-1 win.

Nayef Aguerd had a shocker, levelling it up for Erik ten Hag’s side by heading past his own goalkeeper from a corner.

The West Ham centre back was then at fault for Fred’s goal to seal the 3-1 result, having his pocket picked by Wout Weghorst inside the box before Fred fired home.

This wasn’t the kind of performance West Ham fans expect from Aguerd, and not what Liverpool expect from him either.

Nayef Aguerd is on Liverpool’s radar

Goal reported just hours before kick-off at Old Trafford that Aguerd is on Liverpool’s radar.

It’s suggested that the Moroccan’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed and Liverpool have one eye on him.

Liverpool continue to be linked with left-footed centre backs and it looks like a key focus for Jurgen Klopp and co this summer.

Josko Gvardiol, Levi Colwill and Max Kilman have all been mentioned of late as Liverpool eye changes at the back.

Aguerd fits the bill too and has largely impressed for West Ham since a £30million summer move from Rennes.

Add in that Aguerd played well for Morocco at the World Cup and you can see why the 26-year-old is so highly-rated.

Liverpool may well be keeping tabs on him but Wednesday’s display may not have impressed them all that much – especially given how he struggled against one of the Reds’ biggest rivals.

West Ham will know that this was probably a one-off and will hope to see Aguerd back to his best quickly, but will also hope Liverpool look elsewhere for a new defender.
