According to a report in the Daily Mirror, West Ham United were blocked from making what would have turned out to be a disastrous signing in the January transfer window.

West Ham approached Leicester City to snap up Islam Slimani on loan at the start of the season, but the ill-feeling between the two boards meant that the Foxes decided against letting the Algerian move to the London Stadium.

Slimani has started just one game for Newcastle, with his injury problems worse than first feared, and he has just picked up a suspension.
