West Ham United attempted to sign the Leicester City forward, but he ended up moving to Newcastle United.

West Ham approached Leicester City to snap up Islam Slimani on loan at the start of the season, but the ill-feeling between the two boards meant that the Foxes decided against letting the Algerian move to the London Stadium.
Slimani, instead, went to Newcastle – but his time at St. James’ Park has been a disaster.

Slimani has started just one game for Newcastle, with his injury problems worse than first feared, and he has just picked up a suspension.
The loan has ended up being a costly venture for the Magpies, and West Ham must be counting their blessings that they have been able to avoid having to pay for the target-man.

Slimani would have offered West Ham very little, if he had joined up with David Moyes’ squad.
And although missing out on the deal would have been frustrating at the time, West Ham must feel it was a blessing in disguise now.
