West Ham United are said to be among the contenders to sign Steven N’Zonzi from Sevilla in January.

Sevilla midfielder N’Zonzi is expected to move on in the new year, when the transfer window re-opens.
West Ham have been linked with an ambitious bid for the French midfielder, and his capture would be a hugely exciting addition for David Moyes’ side.

Carvalho and N’Zonzi are similar players, but the Sevilla man has experience of playing in the Premier League, and that could be crucial.
N’Zonzi has previously played for both Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, and his familiarity with English football could be key.
West Ham simply cannot afford to wait for any signings they make to find their feet, as they need to have an immediate impact.

Carvalho has never played outside Portugal before, and could take some time to get used to Premier League football.
That is simply a risk that West Ham cannot afford to take, as they need to put points on board rapidly, if they are to avoid relegation.
And Moyes would, therefore, be far better off bringing in N’Zonzi than Carvalho at this moment in time.
