West Ham United want Matheus Cunha but they look set to miss out with Wolverhampton Wanderers closing in on a deal for the striker.

West Ham splashed the cash on a striker over the summer as Gianluca Scamacca arrived from Sassuolo.

Whilst the Italian has shown some promising signs at times, Scamacca hasn’t quite become a consistent goalscorer in the Premier League just yet.

Michail Antonio hasn’t really been in the goals this season, scoring just twice in 14 league games, and West Ham may chase another striker with the Jamaican turning 33 in March.

West Ham United want Matheus Cunha

West Ham moved to bring in some Brazilian flair over the summer as Lucas Paqueta arrived from Lyon.

Add in recent links to the likes of Luizao, Gerson and Rodrigo Becao and it seems like West Ham are eyeing a Brazilian influx.

Mundo Deportivo report that West Ham have been tracking Atletico Madrid attacker Matheus Cunha very closely.

Aston Villa and Manchester United are also named as being in the race for Cunha.

It currently looks like Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of signing Cunha though, leaving West Ham to miss out.

90Min claim that Cunha wants to play for new Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui and a loan with option to buy now looks imminent.

The 23-year-old has started just two La Liga games for Atletico Madrid this season and didn’t start any of their Champions League games.

Cunha hasn’t managed a league goal this season and Atletico now seem ready to let him leave for a move to the Premier League.

West Ham are seemingly lurking in the race and could pounce if anything goes wrong with Wolves.

Lopetegui’s men are attempting a double deal involving Atletico teammate Felipe, which certainly complicates any deal.

Cunha was a real talent at RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin, with Moyes and West Ham potentially believing they can get him back to his best – but they are left lagging behind Wolves as things stand.
