David Moyes’ West Ham United want Kalvin Phillips and are eyeing the Manchester City ace after a lack of playing time under Pep Guardiola.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim that West Ham are ‘watching developments’ over Phillips and his City future.

It’s stated that Phillips wasn’t particularly enthused by a potential move to West Ham last year.

The Hammers wanted to raid Leeds for Phillips but he just wasn’t keen and ended up signing for City instead.

Yet West Ham may now hope that they can finally tempt Phillips into making the move to East London this summer.

Moyes and co need to think about potential successors to Declan Rice in midfield with the Premier League elite all interested in signing him.

Rice’s England teammate Phillips may fit the bill, though you can be sure that a number of Premier League clubs will fancy signing him too.

West Ham target Kalvin Phillips may already need Manchester City exit

Phillips was a superstar at Leeds and catapulted himself into the England national team.

Hailed as ‘immense’ by Gareth Southgate, Phillips completely changed the trajectory of his career under Marcelo Bielsa.

City were convinced enough to secure a deal worth around £45million for Phillips last summer, adding him to Pep Guardiola’s midfield options.

This season has been very difficult for Phillips though.

Phillips hasn’t even started a Premier League game for City this season, notching just 21 minutes in the top flight and 13 minutes in the Champions League.

The 27-year-old has been accused of being unfit after the World Cup with Guardiola questioning his condition.

Phillips did start against Southampton in the Carabao Cup but City lost that game 2-0 and he has managed just 16 minutes in all competitions since then.

It’s reasonable to suggest that Phillips may now need to leave City in order to play first-team football – and he would certainly get it at West Ham.

With City interested in Rice, maybe a part-exchange deal can be engineered here as West Ham reignite their Phillips interest.
