West Ham United are showing an interest in signing Sheffield United ace John Egan as David Moyes seeks to sign a new centre back this summer.
That’s according to a report from The Sun, who claim that Moyes checked on Egan’s progress with the Blades last week.
It’s stated that Sheffield United would likely need to sell Egan this summer if they miss out on promotion to the Premier League.
Egan would allegedly be interested in making the move to the Premier League having already proven himself in the top flight.
Egan, 29, starred in the Premier League with Sheffield United and may now be ready for a new challenge after more than 150 appearances for the Blades.
David Moyes has shown throughout his career that he is willing to sign Championship players in the Premier League.
Joleon Lescott and Tim Cahill spring to mind at Everton, whilst Craig Dawson, Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen have all joined West Ham from Championship clubs.
It’s therefore no surprise that Moyes is now looking to the Championship once again, with Egan a potential addition to West Ham’s back line.
Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny has spoken very highly of Egan, suggesting earlier this season that he is ‘Champions League’ quality after shackling Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former Sunderland man has enjoyed great success with Gillingham, Brentford and Sheffield United, with West Ham potentially the next step up.
With West Ham chasing European football once again, a move to London should be appealing to Egan, who enjoyed his time in the capital with Brentford.
Egan should also come in cheaper than fellow West Ham target Joe Worrall given his age, with Moyes potentially seeing a bargain in the offing.
