West Ham United have identified John Egan as a potential replacement for Issa Diop if the defender leaves for Newcastle United, according to The Sun.

The Sun have reported that Newcastle are interested in signing Diop from Premier League rivals West Ham before the January transfer window closes on Monday night.

The report has claimed that West Ham are willing to sell the French central defender for £10 million.

And, according to The Sun, if Diop does leave, then the Hammers are considering bringing in 29-year-old Egan from Sheffield United as his replacement.

Would John Egan make West Ham better?

In our view, Egan would be a good signing for West Ham in the January transfer window at the right price.

The 29-year-old centre-back is at the top of his game at the moment and would be able to make an immediate impact at London Stadium.

Egan may be playing in the Championship at the moment with Sheffield United, but he has played in the Premier League with success.

The Republic of Ireland international central defender has scored two goals and created two big chances in 67 Premier League appearances so far in his career.
