West Ham United are said to be keen on the Hibernian midfielder.

According to the Daily Record, West Ham United are interested in snapping up £5 million-rated John McGinn from Hibernian, but that transfer would surely only lead to more criticism of the board.

West Ham have been linked tentatively with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Yaya Toure and William Carvalho this summer.

But the Daily Record now suggest that McGinn is another player on their radar, and that would have to be viewed as an underwhelming signing now.

McGinn has enjoyed a fine season in the SPFL, but he is now 24, and his arrival at the London Stadium hardly screams ambition.

There were major hopes at West Ham for the summer ahead when Manuel Pellegrini arrived, with the club suggesting that big money would be spent on players.

However, McGinn’s arrival would send out the wrong message, and suggest that very little had changed.

And West Ham’s board would almost certainly be criticised for bringing the Scottish international in, as he is simply not high profile enough to excite the London Stadium crowd.
