West Ham United’s board were heavily criticised for selling Andre Ayew in January.

West Ham United getting £20 million for Andre Ayew in January is now looking like smart business.
West Ham’s board were heavily criticised when Ayew departed, with fears that the Hammers had left themselves short up-front.
But West Ham’s survival has now been confirmed, and it seems questionable what Ayew would have offered them over the second part of the campaign.

David Moyes has generally used a system which incorporates just one forward, and even Javier Hernandez has struggled for game time.
It seems that Ayew would have only been used as an impact substitute if he had stuck around at the London Stadium, and West Ham maximised his value.
Ayew’s move to Swansea has not gone according to plan so far, with the Ghanian struggling for goals.

Ayew has failed to score in any of his 11 appearances since moving to the Liberty Stadium, and if Swansea do get relegated then they will surely have no chance of recouping the £20 million they paid for the forward.
And West Ham must feel that they got the better of the deal, even if it was a controversial one at the time it went through.
