West Ham United want Gaetan Laborde and are vying with Newcastle United for the Rennes striker’s signature before the transfer deadline.

The Hammers are chasing new signings after a dismal start to the season.

Three defeats in three games is a woeful start and David Moyes is looking for new signings to help the West Ham cause.

Chelsea left back Emerson Palmieri looks set to join West Ham this week but Moyes will be keen for more new faces to follow.

Club Brugge ace Hans Vanaken is one name in the mix yet again, and another familiar name is being linked for what feels like the umpteenth time.

West Ham United want Gaetan Laborde

Tuttomercatoweb report that West Ham are one of many clubs chasing Rennes striker Gaetan Laborde in the final days of the transfer window.

It’s stated that Newcastle United, Sevilla and Lille are also interested in Laborde, who could leave Rennes before the deadline.

West Ham fans will certainly remember the name of Laborde.

The Hammers attempted to take Laborde on loan with a view to a permanent move in January 2021, but that didn’t happen.

It’s also a year – almost exactly – since West Ham offered £16million to sign Laborde from Montpellier, but again there was no agreement.

West Ham are again being linked with Laborde, and his 17 goals in all competitions means interest is only natural.

Laborde, 28, may only be 5ft 11in tall but he has an incredible leap and has become known for his aerial ability.

It’s hard to see West Ham making a move though, having already paid big money for a new striker this summer by signing Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

Michail Antonio continues to start up front and Scamacca is having to be patient on the bench, so where exactly would Laborde fit in?

A move to Newcastle doesn’t really make sense either; they have two experienced strikers in Chris Wood and Callum Wilson, so signing a younger option for the future is the best way for the Magpies.

Joao Pedro could fill that role but Laborde just doesn’t make sense for either Newcastle or West Ham right now.
