West Ham United want Gabriel Sara as the Norwich City midfielder attracts major interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (12/03, p71) as they claim that Sara is attracting major interest.

It’s stated that Atletico Madrid have taken a particular liking to Sara and could move for him at the end of the season.

However, Diego Simeone’s men are far from alone in the race to sign Sara.

West Ham have been watching Sara in recent weeks as they weigh up their options with Declan Rice likely to leave this summer.

RB Leipzig have even joined the race to sign Sara with the Brazilian having a number of suitors.

Norwich may need to win promotion back to the Premier League in order to to keep Sara – and that dream is in doubt.

The Canaries lost at home to Sunderland on Sunday and sit seventh in the Championship table, two points outside the playoffs.

Who is West Ham United target Gabriel Sara?

Sara came up through the Sao Paulo ranks and ended up becoming a first-team star with the Brazilian side.

The midfielder racked up more than 100 appearances for Sao Paulo, notching 17 goals and nine assists in the process.

Norwich came calling over the summer and struck a deal worth a total of £11million for Sara, which was £6million up front.

That was a hefty purchase for Norwich but one that could end up making them a profit given the major interest in Sara.

The 23-year-old has recorded five goals and four assists in 33 appearances for the Canaries.

A talented central midfielder who can also play further forward, Sara has been hailed as ‘the full package’ by Norwich teammate Kenny McLean.

West Ham may fancy adding Sara if Rice does end up leaving but beating Atletico and RB Leipzig – two established Champions League clubs – won’t exactly be easy.
