West Ham United gave their hopes of survival a major boost on Wednesday night, beating Chelsea 3-2 at the London Stadium.

The Hammers thought they had taken the lead through Tomas Soucek, but the goal was ruled out by VAR – and Chelsea went down the other end and won a penalty, which Willian converted.

Soucek did end up equalising, and Michail Antonio scored from close range to put West Ham in front. Willian rattled home a free kick to bring Chelsea level, and it looked like a 2-2 draw was on the cards.

However, Antonio then set up Andriy Yarmolenko to win the game for the Hammers, with the Ukrainian scoring one of his trademark goals – cutting in on his left foot to smash home.

That’s West Ham’s first win since football came back, and they now move three points clear of the relegation zone in an absolutely priceless win.

David Moyes will hope to gain momentum after this win, and January signings Soucek and Jarrod Bowen both made a huge impact last night, with Bowen racking up two assists.

Soucek joined Declan Rice in midfield, with no Mark Noble involved, and the Czech star – currently on loan from Slavia Prague – did his chances of a permanent move no harm after another promising display.

Fans took to Twitter to call him ‘class’ and ‘immense’, urging the club to get him signed up permanently this summer after a man of the match display last night.
