The January transfer window is still some time away, but West Ham United appear to be priming themselves to strike a deal with 2019 in mind.

The Hammers – who drew 1-1 with Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon – have been robbed of an attacking talent with Andriy Yarmolenko’s major injury, whilst Argentinian Manuel Lanzini isn’t back until February.

Now, manager Manuel Pellegrini is looking to the free agent market, having targeted a reunion with playmaker Samir Nasri ahead of the January transfer window.

Released by Antalyaspor earlier this year, Nasri has been out of the game with a doping ban, but can return to training this month ahead of resuming his playing career in January.

Having worked together at Manchester City, it’s no great surprise that Pellegrini has an interest in signing Nasri, and an £80,000-a-week deal was thought to be close, with a potential re-think in mind according to The Telegraph.

A deal could still go through, and West Ham fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the speculation ever since it began late last week.

Many West Ham fans are far from impressed with the move, feeling that Joao Mario or even Danny Drinkwater would be better signings, adding that ‘the circus is back’ if West Ham prioritise a big-wage deal for Nasri over handing Declan Rice a pay rise.

Others think that Nasri would be a solid addition whilst Lanzini is out, but the general consensus is that Nasri is past his best and shouldn’t be a priority on the reported wages.
