West Ham United picked up a huge win on Monday night as they beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor.
The Hammers had lost two games in a row before the trip to East Lancashire, and had to win to get their European push back on track.
It didn’t start too well though as Tomas Soucek gave away a penalty by fouling Chris Wood, with the New Zealand striker stepping up to score from the spot himself.
West Ham hit back though, with Michail Antonio bagging a quickfire brace to send West Ham into half time 2-1 up.
David Moyes’ men created chance after chance but couldn’t find a third to kill the game off, but stood strong to deny Burnley a route back into the game.
West Ham are still just three points behind Chelsea in the race for the last Champions League spot, and have a four-point cushion over Liverpool in seventh.
This was an impressive display by West Ham, and one of the standout performers was Manuel Lanzini as he was deployed a deeper midfield role alongside Soucek.
The Argentinian is known for being a number 10, but David Moyes used him more of a classic central midfield role, which seemed like a risk against a robust Burnley side.
Lanzini was outstanding though, dictating the game from deep as West Ham fans compared him to Andrea Pirlo.
Others felt that Lanzini was back to his best after many injury concerns over the years, adding that he was ‘unreal’ and ‘immense in the win at Turf Moor.
