West Ham United fell to a second league defeat in a row as they were beaten 2-1 away at Arsenal.
The Hammers lost 2-0 at home to Newcastle United last weekend, and few were giving them a chance at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.
Alexandre Lacazette fired Arsenal in front, but West Ham made life very difficult for the Gunners, with Michail Antonio equalising from a Ryan Fredericks cross.
West Ham were arguably the better side in the second half, but just couldn’t find the key goal – and they were made to pay when Eddie Nketiah bagged the winner for Arsenal late on.
It’s now two defeats in two to start the new Premier League season, though there were some bright spots in this performance.
Arthur Masuaku was one of them, as he was brought in to play as a left-wing back in a 5-4-1 system, with David Moyes trying to match up the Gunners.
Masuaku is often criticised for his defensive work as a left back, but he impressed going forward in a more advanced role – and earned praise from fans.
Some fans believe that Masuaku offered exactly what West Ham need with his attacking play down the left, and feel that he has now shown he can be good.
Others felt that he was the best player on the pitch and ‘quality’ against the Gunners, with real hope that he can nail down a regular starting role now.
