West Ham United sold James Tomkins to Crystal Palace earlier today.
West Ham United fans seem largely disappointed by the news that James Tomkins has been sold to Crystal Palace.
The Eagles signed Tomkins earlier today, with the defender penning a five-year deal at Selhurst Park.
Palace paid £10 million for Tomkins, and while there is some recognition that was a fair price from Hammers fans – the majority are disheartened to see such a loyal player leave the Olympic Stadium.
Tomkins has been with West Ham since he was a child, and he progressed through their youth system.
The defender’s importance to the team has diminished in recent seasons, however, with West Ham having more money to spend.
Tomkins failed to break into Slaven Bilic’s team at centre-back last season, with most his appearances coming on the right hand side of defence.
Tomkins has become Crystal Palace’s third signing of the summer – following the additions of Andros Townsend and Steve Mandanda.
In total, Tomkins made 243 appearances for West Ham and scored 11 goals.
