West Ham United are reportedly keen on James McCarthy.

West Ham United are in the market for new signings this month, and a surprise name has been linked with the club already.

The Hammers are surely in the market for another central midfield player, with both Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez currently out injured.

Chilean Gary Medel has been linked with a move to join forces with Manuel Pellegrini, but West Ham appear to have another target in mind.

The Daily Mail report that West Ham are interested in Everton’s James McCarthy, and could pursue a loan deal until the end of the season.

McCarthy, 28, has been out of action for a year after a major injury against West Brom in January 2018, and is only just returning.

The Irishman is strong and combative at his best, but his injury problems over the last two years have diminished his impact at Goodison Park.

Unsurprisingly, West Ham fans aren’t to keen on the idea of him signing, believing he is ‘bang average’ and calling him a ‘Moyes-like signing’.

Others haven’t forgotten him injuring Dimitri Payet, branding him a ‘dirty’ player and hoping that the rumour isn’t true, though some are ready to trust in Pellegrini’s judgement.
