The Frenchman was a positive on another disappointing day for West Ham United.
West Ham United lost 4-2 to Watford at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday after throwing away a two-goal lead.
The Irons looked in cruise control early doors and two goals from Michail Antonio had them 2-0 ahead by 33 minutes – but it all went terribly wrong.
Odion Ighalo halved the deficit on 41 minutes in what appeared to be a very seminal moment in the match, perhaps giving them an ounce of belief at a key time.
But then Troy Deeney equalised moments before the half-time whistle as a deflated West Ham went into the break with a lot to contemplate.
After the break, Slaven Bilic’s side never came out and goals from Etienne Capoue and Jose Holebas midway through the second period sealed Watford’s come-from-behind victory in West Ham’s next home.
There were, however, one or two positives – and one of those was certainly Dimitri Payet’s display. The French playmaker, making his first Premier League start of the season, dazzled at times and set up both of Antonio’s goals.
The second assist, in particular, was a thing of real beauty as his sublime rabona cross was met at the back post by Antonio’s head, and West Ham acknowledged the piece of magic afterwards.
