A large number of West Ham United fans have suggested that Andy Carroll should be sold, even though he has stated to the Daily Mirror that he wants to stick around at the London Stadium.

Carroll’s current deal at West Ham expires at the end of the season, although the club do have an option to extend it for another year.

It is not yet clear whether that option will be activated, as Carroll has struggled so badly with fitness during his time with the Hammers.

But the target-man is keen to prove his worth over the coming weeks to earn himself a new contract.

He said: “It’s important for me to get back playing, get back fully fit and show that I deserve another deal here. It would be great if I can get it. If not, then we’ll see what happens. I am focused on staying here. That’s where my head is at.”

The comments have drawn a mixed response from West Ham supporters.

While there are some fans of the London club who would be prepared to hand him a pay-as-you-play deal, others are keen to see the target-man depart now.

Carroll has actually started to feature again for West Ham of late, and he has made an impact.

The England international came off the bench at the weekend to help West Ham pick up a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.
