West Ham United produced a rousing display on Sunday evening to beat Liverpool – and defender Craig Dawson ended up playing a key role.

The Hammers have been excellent this season but few were really giving them a chance of beating Liverpool.

David Moyes proved people wrong once again as West Ham caused mayhem from set pieces and on the counter-attack.

An Alisson own goal opened the scoring for Liverpool, only for Trent Alexander-Arnold to bury an equaliser.

Pablo Fornals and Kurt Zouma scored in quick succession to give West Ham a 3-1 lead, with Divock Origi’s late goal failing to spark a Liverpool fightback.

West Ham move up to third in the Premier League table having won seven of their 11 games this season, losing just twice.

West Ham fans praise Dawson

To grab such a win was huge for West Ham anyway, but they had to do it without defender Angelo Ogbonna for much of the game.

The Italian centre back was taken off injured early on, meaning Craig Dawson had to come on in his place.

Dawson won’t have expected to be involved against Liverpool, but showed his worth to West Ham with a fine performance.

West Ham fans have been taking to Twitter to praise Dawson, hailing a ‘superb’ and ‘masterful’ performance.

Others called Dawson ‘immense’ and an ‘animal’, believing he turned in an exceptional performance to once again show what a bargain he has been.
