Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe could be a transfer target for West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

Tony Gale has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 30th March, that West Ham United should move for Jermain Defoe this summer.

Defoe is set to leave Sunderland on a free transfer, if the Black Cats do drop out of the Premier League.

With Sunderland currently seven points adrift of safety, it seems likely that David Moyes’ side will go down.

And Gale wants West Ham to take advantage by moving for Defoe, and partnering him up-front with Andy Carroll next term.

“I know he’d cost a fortune in wages, but I think if he came to West Ham and West Ham got a system where they could play two up-front – Andy Carroll and Jermain Defoe – that would take some stopping, wouldn’t it,” Gale said.

West Ham fans are also keen for Defoe to move back to the London Stadium.

The veteran forward has been in superb form for Sunderland this season, scoring 14 goals and forcing his way back into the England squad.

Defoe even managed to hit the back of the net for the Three Lions in their most recent World Cup qualifying match against Lithuania.

During his first spell at West Ham, Defoe netted 41 goals in 105 appearances before moving to Tottenham Hotspur.
