West Ham United wanted Emerson but a £15million deal for the Chelsea man is now off due to his wage demands.
The Hammers secured one defensive signing on Wednesday by snapping up Paris Saint-Germain defender Thilo Kehrer.
Kehrer can play all across the back four and his versatility should be welcomed by David Moyes.
Yet Moyes does still want a left back to compete with Aaron Cresswell.
Arthur Masuaku has left the club to join Besiktas and with Maxwel Cornet more of a winger, the Hammers may need to strike.
West Ham United wanted Emerson
One of the top targets for Moyes was Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri.
The London Evening Standard reported earlier this week that Emerson had picked a move to West Ham over Nottingham Forest.
A £13million deal was in the works and there were even hopes that the Italian international could make his debut this weekend.
Instead, it looks like Emerson’s move from East to West London is now being scrapped completely.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that the move was stalling because of a major gap in Emerson’s wage demands and what West Ham wanted to pay.
The London Evening Standard claim that the deal is now off with West Ham scared off by Emerson’s huge demands.
A £13million fee – plus £2million in add-ons – was close to being agreed but Emerson has priced himself out of a move.
The 28-year-old seemingly has no future at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel – even though the German has called him ‘unbelievable’ – and especially since the big-money signing of Marc Cucurella.
Emerson spent the second half of last season on loan at Lyon and needs to be playing regularly ahead of the World Cup.
West Ham would have offered that possibility but unless Emerson suddenly brings down his wage demands, there will be no move to the London Stadium.
