West Ham United should be delighted they didn’t sign Raul Jimenez – and Everton should also take the high road.

West Ham United fans don’t have much to be thankful for at the moment.

Their side sits 18th in the Premier League table after managing just one win in six outings, and some of their summer signings – namely Marko Arnautovic and Joe Hart – have proven rather underwhelming additions so far.

But it could be worse: they could have spent close to £50 million on Raul Jimenez.

O Jogo reported back in July that West Ham – who had already signed Javier Hernandez – were keen on breaking the bank for the Benfica striker, whose buyout clause is £45.8 million.

It looked a terrible move at the time, by virtue of his paltry goal return, but fast forward a couple of months and the Mexico forward has continued to underwhelm.

Jimenez has managed only one goal for club and country in 11 games since the speculation about his move to West Ham and it is clear that the Londoners dodged a bullet so big that it makes those slow-moving, shark-faced enemies in Super Mario look like mere pellets.

And Everton should also take the high road.

The Mirror reported this week that Everton – who were also interested in the summer, for some reason – are keen on renewing their interest in January, but the Toffees need to avoid at all costs for that sort of money.
