West Ham United do not need Scott Arfield, even if he is available on the cheap

West Ham United would be much better off saving their money, rather than adding Scott Arfield to their ranks.

According to the Independent, West Ham United want to sign Scott Arfield from Burnley, but the transfer would simply not be worthwhile for David Moyes’ side.

Arfield has just six months remaining on his contract at Turf Moor, and West Ham believe they could get him on a cut price deal this month.

However, Arfield is not an upgrade on the options that West Ham already have at the club.

The Canadian international midfielder may be a solid option for Burnley, but his arrival at West Ham could only be seen as a short-term option.

If West Ham do want to start challenging the upper echelons of the table, then they will surely need to set their sights higher than Arfield.

West Ham already have plenty of hard-working, resilient midfielders in their ranks, but they need genuine stand-out quality now.

Of course, that will not come cheaply, but West Ham would be far better off spending big on players who will improve their first-team, than searching for cheap deals to add squad depth.

Arfield is now 29, and has little room for improvement, and West Ham should pass up the opportunity to sign him and look elsewhere for greater quality.
