West Ham United defender Declan Rice has told the club’s official website that a team meeting helped his side pick up a draw against Liverpool.

West Ham’s form had dipped badly in January, with the side playing within themselves.

And the Hammers squad took it upon themselves to ensure that they did not let their slump last into February.

West Ham held a team meeting last week, with Rice suggesting that some home truths were told.

Rice said: “After the January we’ve had and losing all those games, we all had a meeting with each other and said ‘We need to pull our fingers out because it’s not West Ham, they’re not the results we want’ and now we want to push on at Palace.

“The players just said after the Wolves game we needed to sort things out and watch the Wolves game back and see the problems we were creating and what we weren’t doing and on Monday night we changed things around.

“We talked about working harder off the ball, defending set pieces, just the basics really, which we didn’t do in the previous three games when the other team wanted it more than we did and won. Against Liverpool, we wanted it more than they did and we fought and got a point.”

West Ham managed to draw 1-1 with Liverpool, with Rice putting in an excellent performance in midfield.

The Hammers actually went behind, when Sadio Mane scored from close range.

However, Michail Antonio scored a leveller for Manuel Pellegrini’s side and West Ham never looked back.

West Ham are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Crystal Palace.
