Slaven Bilic has told the London Evening Standard that he has already spoken to Javier Hernandez about playing him out wide for West Ham United.

Hernandez was given a role on the left hand side of West Ham’s attacking line-up against West Bromwich Albion last weekend.

The switch of position did the clinical Mexican no favours, as he failed to get involved at the Hawthorns.

Hernandez is noted for a finishing ability more than his creative spark.

But Bilic insists that Hernandez has no problem in performing a function for the good of the team.

“I have spoken to Chicharito. He is a great lad and I said we have priorities and at this moment the team needs you there,” the Croatian manager said.

Bilic’s decision to play Hernandez out wide for West Ham has caused some frustration from supporters of the London club.

Hernandez has already shown how prolific he can be when played through the centre, but Andy Carroll was favoured in that role against West Brom.

West Ham are in action this evening in the League Cup against Bolton Wanderers, but Hernandez is unlikely to start in the fixture.
