West Ham United boss David Moyes’ past comments on Sunderland’s Lamine Kone

West Ham United are said to be trying to do a deal for Sunderland centre-back Lamine Kone in January.

According to the Daily Mirror, West Ham United are interested in Sunderland’s Lamine Kone and that may not be all too surprising, given David Moyes’ admiration for the centre-back during his time at the Stadium of Light.

When Moyes was in charge at Sunderland Kone came in for fierce criticism from the Wearsiders’ supporters.

However, Moyes always defended Kone, and insisted that the powerful centre-back was a player he always wanted to keep.

“You know me I’ll tell you this straight, I never at any time had any offers coming in for him, we had nothing,” Moyes said to the Chronicle.

“I wouldn’t have let him go anyway. He’s too important. He’s come back, he’s helped us, scored a good goal (at Crystal Palace) and I think he’s played well for the last few games.”

During Moyes’ time at Sunderland Kone came in for fierce criticism for showing a supposed luck of effort, but the Scottish boss always defended him.

And Moyes wanting to bring in Kone at West Ham does feel inevitable, as a result.

West Ham have been abject defensively this term, with the Hammers leaking goals.

Moyes is expected to tighten things up during his time at the London Stadium, as he looks to guide West Ham to safety.

The Hammers are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table, with Moyes’ first match in charge due to come against Watford in two weekends’ time.
