West Ham United wanted Beto this summer and the Udinese star is now being backed for a ‘huge leap’ in his career after two more goals.

The Hammers simply had to find a new striker to support Michail Antonio.

Sebastien Haller left the club in 2021 and West Ham went three straight windows without replacing him.

The time was right for West Ham to go and find another goalscorer and they did just that.

West Ham secured a real coup by signing Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo, but they seemingly fancied another Serie A striker too.

West Ham United wanted Beto

90Min reported that, before signing Scamacca, West Ham were also showing a real interest in signing Udinese forward Beto.

The deal for Scamacca did go ahead but maybe Beto was West Ham’s fallback option in case the Italian didn’t arrive.

Beto, 24, had a fairly low-key start to his career with the likes of Uniao Tires and Olympic Montijo.

13 goals in 44 games for Portimonense tempted Udinese into a loan deal last season and the Portuguese attacker continued to impress with 11 goals in 28 Serie A outings.

A physical target man just like Scamacca, Beto showed huge promise last season and has started this season brilliantly too.

Beto scored twice in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Sassuolo, coming off the bench to bag a brace in just 22 minutes on the pitch.

That’s now four goals in his last four games with Beto in truly superb form to start the new season.

West Ham may be wise to keep Beto on their radar and the Italian press are seemingly expecting big things to come.

Tuttomercatoweb note that Beto is ‘ready for the huge leap’ I he carries on these superb performances for Andrea Sottil’s side.

It’s even noted that Udinese are already grooming Vivaldo Semedo – another giant Portuguese striker – to become Beto’s heir should he be sold.

Scamacca’s move makes a West Ham switch feel a little unlikely now, but don’t be surprised if other Premier League clubs start to sit up and take notice of the in-form hitman.
