West Ham United and Newcastle United are both wanting to sign Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake.

According to the Guardian, Bournemouth have won the race to sign Nathan Ake from Chelsea – despite interest from West Ham United and Newcastle United.

West Ham and Newcastle are both said to have been eager to do a deal for the centre-back, but the Cherries beat them to the punch.

That could now be a source of major regret for West Ham and Newcastle in the years ahead as Ake has a huge amount of ability.

Although his £20 million price tag is expensive, there is no doubting that Ake could be worth more than that in the future – if he goes on to fulfil his potential.

Indeed, the Guardian report that Chelsea wanted to hold on to Ake – as they believe he could become a first-team star at Stamford Bridge – but his desire for competitive action forced them into selling.

Bournemouth have taken the plunge, and their faith could be rewarded in the years ahead.

And if the transfer works out as hoped, it could leave West Ham and Newcastle looking back with regret, that they didn’t push harder to sign Ake when they had the opportunity.
