West Ham United want Mauricio Pochettino but accept that the former Tottenham Hotspur boss appears to be out of reach.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that West Ham are now considering sacking manager David Moyes.
The Hammers naturally want to have a replacement lined up before they decide to move on from the Scot.
It’s stated that West Ham have a couple of ‘dream appointments’ in mind in Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel.
The report does though add that West Ham understand neither manager are likely to accept an offer right now.
After all, West Ham sit in the Premier League’s bottom three and have been struggling for points all season.
Tuchel won the Champions League for Chelsea in 2021 and Pochettino won Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain last term.
Are either of them likely to go in and save West Ham from relegation? Surely not.
If Mauricio Pochettino returns to London, it’s surely with Tottenham and not West Ham
Pochettino has been out of work since the end of last season having been let go by PSG.
The Argentinian was heavily linked with the Manchester United job, but that went to Erik ten Hag.
You can imagine that a number of Premier League clubs are eyeing Pochettino but West Ham just aren’t in a position to land him.
A return to London may well be on the cards down the line but his destination may well be Tottenham Hotspur.
Pochettino was a hero at Tottenham and even guided the club to the Champions League final back in 2019.
His departure just a matter of months later was difficult and many Spurs fans still pine for Pochettino’s return.
Antonio Conte isn’t exactly covering himself in glory right now and if Tottenham made a change – either by choice or by Conte deciding to leave – then Pochettino will surely be in the mix.
That move makes much more sense in terms of the emotional connection to Tottenham and their standing ahead of West Ham, who will just have to look elsewhere.
