The Hammers keeper has been praised by the club for his “safe hands” ahead of the weekend Premier League clash against Manchester City.
West Ham haven’t exactly set the Premier League alight this season.
The summer appointment of Manuel Pellegrini and several high-profile signings gave Hammers fans plenty of optimism but the first few weeks of the campaign didn’t quite go to plan.
Losses in each of their opening four games – including against Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers – immediately set alarm bells ringing in the stands.
Following the Wolves defeat, the rest of September turned out pretty well as Everton and Manchester United were beaten and a point was claimed against Chelsea.
Since then, however, things have somewhat stagnated once again, with losses against Brighton and Tottenham as well as frustrating draws against Leicester and Huddersfield.
With all this in mind and a very difficult fixture against Manchester City coming up on Saturday, you’d think some cautious optimism would be the right approach.
West Ham’s Twitter page, however, has decided to seemingly tempt fate by posting a picture of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski with the caption “that ball’s in safe hands”.
The 33-year-old has been one of West Ham’s standout performers this season, that is for sure, but when Man City are coming to town, that tweet could come back to haunt them.
