West Ham United failed with a deadline day loan move for former France Under 19 star Ibrahim Amadou.
West Ham boss David Moyes was desperate to add quality to his squad during the transfer window but could only sign Joao Mario on a short-term loan from Inter Milan and little known striker Jordan Hugill from Championship side Preston North End.
Supporters were left disappointed by a lack of incomings as the club battles to retain it’s Premier League status in an increasingly congested division.
The Hammers were linked with over 40 players during the January window and the club’s dire injury situation made their need for new recruits even more acute.
“Before the injuries, we had planned to bring in two players and then, when the injuries occurred, we ideally wanted a third,” Moyes said in the Evening Standard.
“That was our intention right up until the 11th hour on Wednesday but, in the event, we didn’t quite manage it.
“We pushed hard to bring in midfielder Ibrahim Amadou on loan from Lille late in the day but we could not get it over the line before time ran out.”
Amadou had taken his future into his own hands on deadline day by boarding the Eurostar to London to force through a move with the Hammers and Crystal Palace both keen.
In the end, though, the Ligue 1 club refused to sanction a deal and the defender-cum-midfielder returned to France.
