West Ham’s David Sullivan claims that Slaven Bilic decided not to pursue Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches.

West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan has told the club’s official website that they were offered deals for both Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches – but manager Slaven Bilic didn’t want either.

The Hammers decided to back manager Bilic over the summer rather than sack him following a disappointing campaign last season, with proven Premier League players such as Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez all arriving at the London Stadium.

However, West Ham have endured a miserable start to the new season, as they have lost to Manchester United, Southampton and Newcastle United, with Bilic already back under pressure.

As a result, many expected Bilic to dip back into the transfer market before Thursday’s 11pm deadline, and despite some rumours surrounding the Hammers, they chose not to bring in any new faces to boost their squad before the transfer window slammed shut.

Bilic must now press on with what he has, in the hope of turning things around amid speculation over his future – but it appears that the West Ham boss snubbed the chance to bring in two midfield players on loan.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, pictured above, struggled for first-team football under his former Sevilla boss Unai Emery last season, and has now chosen to sign for West Brom on a season-long loan deal, in what is a major coup for the Baggies.

Another Premier League club to strike a coup were Swansea City, as they brought in Bayern Munich talent Renato Sanches on loan until the end of the season, with manager Paul Clement taking advantage of his relationship with Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Now, West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has told the club’s official website that both Krychowiak and Sanches were offered to Bilic, but he turned both down as he instead chose to press ahead with the players he already has, in a move which may shock Hammers fans.

“Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches were both offered to the manager before their switches elsewhere, but he told us that he is happy with the squad he has,” said Sullivan. “As a Board we are behind Slaven, and he believes he has the tools to turn around our form and rectify our disappointing start to the season,” he added.
