West Ham transfer target Luka Jovic caught the eye against Russia on Wednesday evening, as he netted a brace against the World Cup quarter-finalists.

Jovic got a rare start for Serbia, as he usually starts on the bench behind Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, but the easter European outfit chose to go with two up top on this occasion.

The manager’s decision to give the Real Madrid forward a chance was quickly justified.

The West Ham target netted two fine strikes in the first-half as Serbia cantered to a 5-0 win against Russia.

International goals are often looked down upon as the opposition can be very poor at times, but it wasn’t too long ago that Russia were dumping Spain out of the World Cup, so they’re not minnows by any stretch of the imagination.

We’re not sure if David Moyes or any of his backroom staff tuned in to see Jovic’s performance against Russia, but if they did they would have been mightily impressed.

The Hammers certainly need a new striker in January, with Michail Antonio’s consistent injury problems and Sebastien Haller’s poor form, and Jovic could well be the answer.

Unfortunately, they will reportedly face competition from AC Milan in the race for his signature.

However. after Wednesday night’s showing, the London club may want to pull out all the stops to bring the Real Madrid man to the London Stadium.

This is a transfer saga that will be well worth keeping an eye on in January.
