Sun reporter Alan Nixon claims on his Patreon channel that West Ham talent Pierre Ekwah is set to join Championship side Sunderland on loan until the end of the season – which sees David Moyes’ old side raid his current club.

Ekwah, 21, has been a regular for West Ham’s Under-21 side since joining the club from Chelsea 18 months ago. But since his move to the London Stadium, he is yet to make his senior debut. He has been on the bench at times.

However, a move to gain some first-team action is now on the cards. West Ham are keen to let five-time France U20 man Ekwah leave on loan this month, and Sunderland are keen to bring him in. Tony Mowbray wants some signings.

With 18 months left on the three-year deal he signed in the summer of 2021, Ekwah will be hoping to show West Ham what he can do. At a decent level, too. A holding midfielder, Ekwah is known for playing in defence or further forward.

Ekwah needs the platform to go out and shine. A move to Sunderland, who already boast two young French players in Edouard Michut – on loan from PSG – and Abdoullah Ba, suits. The Black Cats need a spark after a poor run of form.

Does Ekwah have a future at West Ham? It is hard to say at this stage but you would suggest that he is failing to break into the side at 21, then it does not look promising. If anything is going to change that, it is an impressive loan spell.

Sunderland currently sit in tenth place in the Championship but are only three points off the play-offs. A good run of form will see them have every chance of making the top six. But acting in the window will help and Ekwah is incoming.
