West Ham are reportedly willing to sell Arthur Masuaku to Besiktas for less than the €2.2m (£2m) option the Turkish side currently have to sign the defender permanently.

According to Sabah, the east London side are in discussions with the Istanbul-based giants over a new transfer fee for the left-back, with Besiktas due to sign Masuaku for good once the defender made 20 appearances for the Turkish side in all competitions.

With the 29-year-old making his 21st appearance for Besiktas this month, talks are now ongoing between West Ham and the Super Lig side over how much the defender could be sold for, with the Irons seemingly willing to part with the Lille-born player for less than the agreed £2m.

Lauded as ‘fantastic’ by fellow West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell, West Ham being open to selling Masuaku for even cheaper than £2m is a telling sign that David Moyes is eager to shed some wages from the Hammers payroll, with the summer expected to be a big one for the London Stadium side.

Indeed, West Ham have a large squad with many names primed to leave east London for good, and Masuaku is just one player who will be ideal for the Hammers to get rid of in the summer on a permanent basis, with the Irons now making steps to make this deal a reality.

With the defender a regular for Besiktas this season, West Ham selling Masuaku to the Turkish side ticks a lot of boxes, and doing so on a cheaper deal could be a masterstroke from Moyes’ side given how much it will save on the wage bill for the summer.

West Ham looking to lower Masuaku’s transfer fee might seem like a strange move at first glance, but given how much the east London side will be saving in wages and how keen Besiktas are to make a deal possible, offloading the fullback for less than £2m is smart business sense.

Masuaku will finally get a new permanent home whilst West Ham make some sort of revenue from the 29-year-old defender, who will be grateful to leave the London Stadium for good having spent a productive year out on loan with Besiktas.
