West Ham United have made their first move for Clermont Foot striker Mohamed Bayo by initiating contact over a potential deal.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim that West Ham have asked Clermont Foot how much it will cost to prise Bayo away before the transfer deadline.
Lille and Bordeaux want Bayo too, but West Ham are now trying to push to the front of the queue.
Lille have yet to make an offer and Bordeaux can’t afford Bayo, meaning West Ham may now be favourites to secure a deal.
Bayo, 23, was born in Clermont-Ferrand and has come up through the ranks with his hometown club.
The 23-year-old striker has been a goal machine for the Ligue 1 side, smashing 26 goals and eight assists in 51 games for Clermont Foot.
With 22 goals in 38 outings last season, Bayo fired Clermont Foot to promotion, and already has three goals in three games to start this season.

That seems to have tempted West Ham into making a move, and Bayo certainly thinks highly of himself, comparing himself to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in terms of playing style.
Bayo is big and strong just like Zlatan, whilst he has the ability to both carry the ball and get in behind defences.
West Ham need to find another striker before the transfer deadline, and Bayo could be seen as a budget-friendly option for David Moyes and co.
