AC Milan are reportedly putting plans in place to sign West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca on loan with an option to buy, with the Italian international tipped for a return back to Serie A.
According to La Repubblica via SportItalia, the Rossoneri are keen to sign Scamacca having missed out on the forward last season to the Irons, with Milan keen to make a loan offer with a €20m (£17m) option to buy in the summer of 2024, a proposal that West Ham could accept.
Scamacca only joined the east London side this summer having beaten some big clubs to the forward’s signature. However, the former Sassuolo man has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League with West Ham, and a move back home to Italy now looks likely for the striker.
Lauded as ‘surreal’ by BBC Sport pundit Steve Sidwell, few would have expected Scamacca to find it this difficult to hit form in England, with the striker scoring once since October and only managing seven goals in all competitions, four of which have come in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

And with Scamacca now seemingly keen on a return to Italy, Milan are looking to pounce for the 24-year-old, who could be tempted by a loan move to the San Siro with West Ham potentially open to accepting a £17m option to buy in the summer of 2024.
Indeed, whilst such a deal could be a risky one for West Ham given how little they recoup from their initial investment on Scamacca, the player himself might strongly push to sign for Milan, leaving the Irons little room but to accept the Rossoneri’s demands for the Rome-born forward.
Scamacca signing for Milan could be a great move for all parties

West Ham’s striker curse has seemingly struck again as Scamacca looks primed to return to Italy after just one year in the Premier League, yet a move to Milan could be beneficial for all parties this summer, even if the Hammers make a loss on the Azzurri international.
As we know, Scamacca looks keen on moving to the San Siro amid interest from Milan, and with the Serie A giants set to make an offer to sign the forward, West Ham might accept the bid with a pouted face knowing that it could be the best they can get for the 24-year-old striker.
