West Ham are now making biggest push to sign Tottenham target, could cost £17m

West Ham and Tottenham want Joakim Maehle and Atalanta decision-makers seem to be divided over whether to sell him this summer.

West Ham secured their first major signing of the summer on Monday by snapping up Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd.

As for Tottenham they have already landed three signings by landing Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma.

Both teams will be seeking more additions this summer and one common target for the two London rivals appears to be Maehle.

West Ham and Tottenham want Joakim Maehle

The Daily Mail reported in May that Tottenham were keen to land Atalanta defender Maehle this summer.

Tottenham are still in the market for a right wing back and Maehle – who can play on either flank but is naturally right-footed – could fit the bill.

Fabio Paratici loves shopping in the Italian market and Maehle knows Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg well from the Danish national team setup.

Maehle is prolific for his country with nine goals in 29 caps and he could provide the attacking threat that Conte wants.

So what about West Ham?

Well the Daily Star claimed earlier this month that West Ham sent scouts to watch Maehle in action for Denmark against Austria ahead of a possible bid.

West Ham are seeking another left back and having the versatility to play on the right as competition for Vladimir Coufal would certainly be welcomed.

Maehle ticks those boxes and it now seems that West Ham are his most likely destination.

Tutto Atalanta claim that West Ham are the only team who has made a serious move to sign Maehle.

Maehle is allegedly dividing the Atalanta decision-makers, with some big fans of his versatility and others thinking that he has flattered to deceive after a superb Euro 2020.

It’s added that Atalanta will sell if they receive an offer worth around €18million to €20million (£15.5million to £17million).

That could fit into West Ham’s budget and it sounds like the Hammers are making a much stronger push than Tottenham for Maehle.
