Could West Ham United be about to add another player to their squad?

According to a report from Italian website Tuttomercatoweb West Ham United will have a meeting this afternoon with the agent of Inter Milan right-back Danilo D’Ambrosio.

The 26-year-old has played 43 times for Inter and previously turned out 123 times for Torino but it seems his time in Italy could be coming to a close with the Hammers and German side Schalke competing for his signature.

West Ham recently brought Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson in on loan for another season but that is only a temporary fix, and with the England under-21 international signing a new long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium it seems highly unlikely the Hammers will be able to sign him permanently next summer.

If that is indeed the case, a move for D’Ambrosio would make sense given the number of matches West Ham will have to play this season and the fact that they will be solving a future problem before it becomes an issue.

The TMW report claims the player will cost between €8million and €10million; that equates to between £5.6million and £7million, which will be a lot for a player who may not be a first-choice this season given Jenkinson’s form during his previous loan spell.

But with a meeting reportedly scheduled, there could soon be another addition to West Ham’s developing squad.
