West Ham will reportedly soon make contact with ACF Fiorentina over Serbian international Nikola Milenkovic, with the 25-year-old impressing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup this month.

According to Firenze Viola, the east London side are ready to reignite their interest in the centre-back in the January transfer window, with Milenkovic one of the best-performing defenders in Qatar, as per WhoScored, despite Serbia’s early exit from the competition.

And West Ham have seemingly been impressed with what they’ve seen from Milenkovic in the past few weeks, with the Hammers set to approach the Serie A side in January over the defender after being linked with a move to the Fiorentina star for months.

Although Milenkovic signed a new contract recently with Fiorentina until 2027, there’s every chance that the defender could be open to a move to the Premier League if West Ham come in with a big enough offer. However, there’s no telling just how much La Viola want for their star defender.

Indeed, the World Cup could easily drive up Milenkovic’s price to something that will be inaccessible to West Ham in the January window. But, given how good the defender was out in Qatar, David Moyes could be tempted to match close to what Fiorentina want for the Serbian.

Moreover, with West Ham’s defensive record in the Premier League this season one of the worst in the division, a quality addition in the form of Milenkovic could be exactly what the Irons need to get their campaign back on the right track, especially with the UEFA Europa Conference League knockout stage just around the corner.

Milenkovic has been linked with West Ham for what feels like forever, with reports stretching back to 2020 claiming that the Hammers wanted to sign the Serbian international. Yet after the World Cup, it feels like a better time than any for the Premier League side to finally bring the 25-year-old to the London Stadium.

A deal could be expensive, of course. But there’s every chance that West Ham could get strike a deal with Fiorentina to sign Milenkovic, which could be one of the best transfers of the entire January transfer window if the Irons are able to pull off the improbable.
