West Ham are reportedly confident that they can sign Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco if they survive Premier League relegation, though they face competition from Manchester City.
According to Inter Live, the Irons believe that they can hash out a deal with Inter involving Emerson Palmieri that would see the 25-year-old Serie A star head to east London, with Dimarco emerging as a top fullback target for West Ham this summer.
As reported by 90min, though, City are also interested in Dimarco, with the £40m-rated defender set for a summer of interest having enjoyed his best season yet for Inter, with the Italian international making the left-wingback spot his own, scoring four goals and assisting another seven in all competitions.
With Dimarco this week bagging two assists in Inter’s crazy 3-3 draw against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League, the Inter star could see his stock rise even higher in the coming weeks, which could easily scupper West Ham’s plans of offering a swap deal with Emerson.

Indeed, the Hammers themselves have to rely on staying up in the Premier League before they can even think about moving for Dimarco, and even if West Ham beat the drop, competition from City will, of course, prove to be too much for David Moyes’ side.
As we know, the Irons lack both the funding and the appeal when it comes to the Manchester giants, and with Dimarco’s profile continuing to rise, there’s every chance that West Ham are now just fighting a losing battle to sign the Inter star this summer.
West Ham should consider other targets with Dimarco’s stock hitting all-time high

Dimarco is enjoying his best season yet for the Nerazzurri, and whilst West Ham could have been a realistic next destination for the defender had the Irons enjoyed another strong season under Moyes, the fact remains that the east London side are nowhere near capable of competing with City for the Inter star.
As a result, West Ham should reconsider their left-back targets, with a player competing outside the Champions League an ideal next step for the rebuild that is bound to take place this summer, with Dimarco on course to join one of the biggest sides in Europe.
