West Ham United teenager Sead Haksabanovic has told the club’s official website that he has become frustrated in east London with a lack of first-team football.

The 18-year-old midfielder joined the Premier League strugglers from Swedish side Halmstad for a fee worth £2.7million as reported by Goal.com, but is yet to be given a proper run in the side.

The two-time Montenegro international has featured just two times in West Ham’s senior side, playing 62 minutes of the Hammers’ 3-0 win over Bolton in the Carabao Cup before featuring in nine minutes of the FA Cup defeat to Wigan.

Able to play anywhere in midfield, Haksabanovic has instead become a prominent figure of Terry Westley’s reserve side and he declared that he would have liked to have played more first-team football this season in an interview.

“I would at this stage have liked to play more in the first team than I have,” Haksabanovic said. “That was the aim when I joined and that’s what I said when I signed in August.

“But I have to look at the positive things and the reasons why. I have learned a lot. The staff here have taught me many things and I think I am a better player already than when I came here.

“But football is about learning and I am still young, so next season will be about improving and hopefully progressing to play more first-team football than I have this season.”

The youngster joined West Ham after making 70 senior appearances for Halmstad, scoring 13 goals and laying on another 10 assists from midfield despite his tender age.

He has hardly featured this season but he could become the club’s surprise weapon next time around, if the Hammers can secure their Premier League status.

They face Leicester City on Saturday at the King Power Stadium, before difficult tests against two of Moyes’ former sides – Manchester United and then Everton on May 13.
