West Ham target Troy Deeney compared to the Hammers’ strikers last season

West Ham United are reportedly interested in the Watford striker.

According to the Mirror, West Ham United are eyeing a move for Watford striker Troy Deeney.

The Hammers were desperate to sign a striker in the summer transfer window but missed out on several targets.

Instead, they ended up signing Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri on loan deals for the campaign.

Both of those forwards have failed to impress at the London Stadium so far, with rumours already suggesting that Zaza could be set to return to Italy.

Deeney is proven in the Premier League, having impressed for the Hornets last season.

So would he represent a smart move for the Hammers? Here is how he compared to Diafra Sakho and Andy Carroll last season.

Deeney registered more shots per game than the duo but had a lower number of shots on target per game than both players.

He scored more big chances per game than either with a score of 0.26 compared to 0.15 and 0.1, and had the better goal tally with 13 goals in total better than Carroll’s nine and Sakho’s five.

Creatively the Watford player was also better, posting more key passes per game and creating more big chances per game than either of the current Hammers stars.

He also posted more accurate passes per game, with his tally of 20.6 beating Sakho’s 10.1 per game and Carroll’s 9.9 per game.

That saw Deeney finish the campaign with a bigger assist tally too, registering seven in total, more than the two West Ham players managed combined.

A win in seven out of eight areas for Deeney then and on this evidence he would be a very savvy signing for West Ham if they could get a deal done.
