The defender joined the Hammers from Olympiacos and was thrown straight in at the deep end at left-back.
West Ham United summer signing Arthur Masuaku has told the club’s official website that he is delighted with his start to life at the club but admitted that it has been a huge challenge to adapt to the “incredible” intensity of the Premier League.
Masuaku joined the Hammers in a £6.2 million deal earlier in August as the club stepped up their search for a left-back following Aaron Cresswell’s injury blow.
That lay-off for the dependable Cresswell saw Masuaku arrive as the temporary first-choice left-back, and as such he has been catapulted straight into life in English football.
He has started all three of the Irons’ Premier League fixtures so far and his performances have been a bit of a mixed bag as he has had to make an instant transition to the style of play.
The 22-year-old admitted that although he has loved every minute of his English top-flight experience so far, it has been a challenge due to the “incredible” intensity of the football.
Masuaku told the club’s website: “I feel great to be playing in the Premier League and to have started well. It has always been one of my goals in football to play in this league. Now I am here, I am working hard and giving my all so that I can play in as many games as possible.
“The intensity of games is different in the Premier League. The intensity of games is incredible, we got back to 2-1 against City and I thought we could have got the equaliser. Unfortunately, we lost 3-1 after a late goal.
“It is this type of football that I like and it is a pleasure for me to be playing each weekend in games like this.”
The left-back will be hoping to see his form and consistency improve week by week as he continues to settle himself into life in the Premier League.
