Javier Hernandez says Jose Mourinho’s comments motivates him to do well.

One of the major problems Manchester United faced last season was finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

The Red Devils were good at creating chances, but they couldn’t kill off their opponents most of the time due to poor finishing.

Jose Mourinho lamented that, had Javier Hernandez still been at the club, the Mexican would have scored 20 goals at least given the amount of chances his team created.

Earlier this week, Hernandez became the fourth signing for West Ham when he completed his £16 million move from Bayer Leverkusen.

When asked to reflect on Mourinho’s comments, Hernandez thanked the Portuguese, saying he is always motivated to do well when great managers like the United boss speaks highly of his talent.

Hernandez scored 59 goals in 157 games for the Red Devils in all competitions before he moved to Germany.

He scored 39 goals during his two seasons in the Bundesliga, and is also the all-time leading goal scorer for his country with 48 goals to his name.

“I say thank you to those words. All the people around the world and this sport that speak about myself and qualities, I thank them. It doesn’t matter where, I always say thank you to them,” said Hernandez, as quoted by Football London.

“I am always motivated when a trainer like Mourinho speaks well about me. I had very good four years at my old club but I am at a new club now.

“I am going back to my old club on the first game, my old house if you can say. It’ll be very special but I am defending other colours there, I want to help my team get the three points and get the season off on the right foot. Going back to Manchester will be a very special moment.”
