Ronald Koeman is eager to add one more striker to his ranks before the transfer window closes, could West Ham United striker Andy Carroll be the answer?
Everton have been one of the busiest clubs in the summer window as Koeman has been backed with a club record spending spree.
Strikers Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez have arrived following Romelu Lukaku’s big move to Manchester United while Henry Onyekuru has also arrived but was promptly loaned out to Anderlecht.
The Toffees are keen to add another striker to the mix before the deadline and Koeman has been linked with the likes of Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and one of Chelsea’s Diego Costa or Michy Batshuayi.
The Dutchman told reporters last week: “If we need to make the next step we need a striker in as well,” as reported by ESPN.
Arsene Wenger has made it clear he is relying on Giroud this season while Costa is seemingly only interested in a transfer to former club Atletico Madrid.
Batshuayi could be an option if Chelsea add Jamie Vardy to their ranks and he is pushed further down the Stamford Bridge pecking order.
But could former Liverpool star Andy Carroll be the answer?
The big Geordie has always struggled with injuries but is now in full training for the Hammers and expected to make his comeback if not against Newcastle this weekend then after the international break.
Koeman has a mixture of pace, youth, experience and guile up front but is perhaps missing the brute strength and aerial threat Lukaku offered his side.
While there would be obvious fitness concerns if Everton did move for Carroll they may be able to negotiate a loan deal with an option to buy, much like the two clubs brokered for Enner Valencia last season.
