West Ham United were soundly beaten by Liverpool yesterday.
West Ham stopper Lukasz Fabianski spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s disappointing 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield yesterday, and responded when asked whether their defeat was partly down to the fact that Manuel Pellegrini started too many of his new summer signings, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Pellegrini brought nine new faces into the London Stadium this summer, for the small price of around £100 million, and many fans and pundits were backing the Hammers to make a real push for the top seven this season.
Yesterday’s defeat at Liverpool brought them back down to reality with a bang, however.
Fabianski, one of Pellegrini’s new signings, started at Anfield, as well as four other debutants, and a lack of defensive cohesion was clear to see.
The 33-year-old Poland international spoke to reporters after the game, and responded when asked whether Pellegrini started too many of his new signings at Anfield, as quoted by West Ham’s official website:
“That’s a tricky question and it’s hard to answer that. Obviously, when you sign more players, it always takes time to gel. I hope in our case it will be quicker rather than longer and we click pretty soon. I think we had a pretty good pre-season but it was always going to be tough playing against a side like Liverpool.”
Next up for the Hammers is a home game against Bournemouth on Saturday, and Pellegrini will be hoping that his players will have gelled by then, considering the fact that they would have had another full week’s training together under their belts.
