Stewart Downing’s performances this season back up his assertion that the Hammers can match Spurs on a man-to-man basis.
The West Ham winger was quoted by The Mirror this week claiming West Ham have no reason to fear Tottenham ahead of their clash this weekend.
Compared to opposition winger Erik Lamela, Downing’s figures compare favourably in all but one key area.

Downing’s crossing has been more accurate, while he shoots at goal and creates chances more frequently than the Argentine, also coming out on top in terms of his assists and very narrowly his passing accuracy.
Lamela is Tottenham’s record signing, and has recently returned to fitness after a short spell out injured. Spurs will need him to rediscover his brightest form however against the Hammers this weekend as they look to do a double over their London rivals.
Downing has flourished this season at West Ham, improving on his performances last season, and considerably so upon his spell at Liverpool.
The West Ham star also has five Premier League goals to his name this season to Lamela’s one, and if looking at a player more likely to make a decisive impact this weekend, the evidence of the season so far points towards the recently recalled England international.
